Morphou is one of the nine Municipalities of Cyprus that are under Turkish occupation since 1974. It was founded in 1883. Morphou is home to one of the island’s crossing points, which was opened to civilian use in 2003. It is located at Zodeia to the southeast of the town. The crossing is used by vehicles, and passport/Id checks are done at both sides when crossing. The road goes through the U.N buffer zone, before entering the opposite side of the border, which was set up to prevent any further attacks between the two communities. Morphou has a long experience, working on European projects, mainly in the areas of culture and citizenship. Morphou is member to the Mayors for Peace organization (http://www.mayorsforpeace.org/) and E.G.T.C Amphictyony network (www.amphictyony.gr). We are interested in new partnerships as well as participating in projects on the themes of culture and citizenship.
